St. George Catholic Church in suburban Baton Rouge, Louisiana, seeks a full-time Director of Music and Liturgy to direct the liturgical prayer of our vibrant parish of 3,400 registered families. With an average parishioner age of 37, St. George serves as a flagship parish in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. We worship together in a beautiful church designed to carefully unite traditional and modern architectural and artistic appointments.
The Director of Music and Liturgy oversees all aspects of our music and liturgy program, most notably serving as director and choral conductor for 2 parish choirs and leading over 500 liturgical ministers. The director is assisted by five part-time musicians who serve as organists/pianists and cantors.
The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge and understanding of Catholic music and liturgy. 5 years of experience in parish ministry and an undergraduate degree in music or sacred/liturgical music is required. A graduate degree in Sacred Music, Liturgical Music, or Liturgical Studies is preferred. The successful candidate will be a skilled organist/pianist and choral conductor.
