Fratelli Tutti: All Brothers

On Saturday, October 3, Pope Francis visited Assisi, offered Mass near the tomb of his patron saint, and signed the Pope’s new encyclical, “Fratelli Tutti”  [all brothers].

On Sunday, October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the full text of the encyclical was released.  It is described as a “social encyclical,” since the Pope wants to offer a new vision of fraternity and social friendship that will not remain on the level of words.  He notes, “the effort to build a more just society implies the capacity of fraternity, a spirit of human fraternity.”

Msgr. Kevin Irwin wrote the introduction to the English edition.  He advises, “When you take up the encyclical, I urge you to not just read it, but to pray it because it is nothing less than about a way to reread and to live the Gospel for our times.”
