Father Columba Kelly, OSB, a prolific composer and respected expert on liturgical chant died on Saturday, June 9. Appropriately, he died on his feast day -- the feast of St. Columba, a saint largely responsible for the conversion of Scotland.
Father Kelly entered St. Meinrad in 1952. He graduated form the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in 1963. His additional studies included tutelege at the Archabbey at Solemnes.
He served as choirmaster for the St. Meinrad monastery and was a well-respected teacher of chant to several geneerations of Church musicians.
May his voice now be joined to the heavenly choir.
