Director of the Office of Divine Worship; Diocese of Providence (RI)

The Director of the Office of Divine Worship serves as the diocesan resource for the celebration and formation of the Sacred Liturgy, implementing the universal and diocesan norms of the Church while supporting the pastoral priorities of the Bishop of Providence.

The Director coordinates major diocesan liturgies, provides guidance and formation to clergy and parish leaders, and promotes excellence in liturgical celebration throughout the Diocese. This position works closely with the Bishop, diocesan offices, parishes, and the Cathedral community to ensure the reverent and prayerful celebration of the Church’s liturgical life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the operations of the Office of Divine Worship, including budget and administrative responsibilities
  • Coordinate major diocesan liturgies, including the Chrism Mass, Holy Week liturgies, ordinations, and other episcopal celebrations
  • Serve as Master of Ceremonies for diocesan liturgies and coordinate liturgical ministers and ceremonial responsibilities
  • Provide liturgical consultation and support to clergy, parishes, and parish liturgy coordinators
  • Develop and lead liturgical formation opportunities, workshops, and resources for clergy and parish leaders
  • Prepare worship resources and liturgical materials for diocesan celebrations
  • Collaborate with the Cathedral staff and diocesan offices on liturgical planning and execution
  • Prepare communications and resources related to the liturgical life of the Diocese

Required Qualifications

  • Roman Catholic priest, deacon, religious, or layperson in good standing with the Church, with the appropriate ecclesiastical approval or recommendation
  • Extensive knowledge of the Church’s liturgical norms, history, and practice
  • Strong understanding of key liturgical documents, including the General Instruction of the Roman Missal and Sacrosanctum Concilium
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to provide liturgical formation and support to clergy and parish leaders
  • Proficiency in creating worship materials using appropriate design and publishing tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a diocesan or parish Director of Liturgy or Worship
  • Experience with liturgical music
  • Experience serving as a Master of Ceremonies or in coordinating major liturgical celebrations

Education

Required: Bafchelor’s degree in Liturgy or a related field

Preferred: Master’s degree or Licentiate in Liturgy, Liturgical Theology, or Sacramental Theology

Salary
